Life and work are never about slaving away in front of the computer, answering phone calls, and compromising your health. Work is done to produce good and worthwhile results. If you find yourself spending more than half your daily hours stuck to your chair, typing aimlessly through various windows; then you know it is time to take a break.
Productivity is not always about the amount of output that you produce, but the quality of the work that you put in. Whether you’re the boss or just a regular employee, make sure to give a good amount of time for yourself. Here are a few ways you can unwind with the job in mind:
1. Walk. Sometimes just writing a couple of e-mails can already eat through your brain. Take a quick walk around the block, or on your office floor to clear your mind. You’ll be surprised at how much energy you can and will gain just by stepping outside of your box for awhile. This works well for creative spirits.
2. Browse. It is no longer true that web browsing impedes on your work progress. In fact, it is browsing that helps relax the brain. If you are too physically tired, browsing a website here and there will help feed you with new ideas or just simply amuse you.
3. Read a book. Yup. Pull out a pocket book as soon as your eyes are strained. Eye doctors recommend looking away from the screen for a good 5 minutes at the very least to help protect and strengthen your eyes. Reading a book for a brief moment will help you escape the hustle of everyday activities. It’s a strange task, but rewarding nonetheless.
4. Progress monitoring. Taking a break with the job in mind is best done when you can step away from the moment and review the goals you have met and the others you need to achieve. Re-framing your system will give you the right drive that you need.
Next time you feel your enthusiasm sinking, try doing any of the activities above. Sometimes all we need is a breath of fresh air to encourage and inspire us to keep on going.
